In 1999, Denmark was a co-signatory to the Bologna Declaration. The Bologna Process is a partnership of institutes of higher education – which is generally aimed at creating a European higher education standard, generally termed the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
The ministers meet every two years to assess the target implementation in the participating countries and to define the framework for the next two years. This year, the ministers met in Leuven / Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium to discuss the report’s findings at the ministerial meeting that began on the 28th April 2009.
The report is a “scorecard” with a ranking of individual countries in relation to 10 criteria. The grading is done in a 5-stage color code. A few countries have seen their total scores drop since this year’s criteria have been tightened up considerably in comparison to previous years. However, Denmark had a higher score than in 2007 and 2005. This time Denmark was ranked the highest in nine of the categories and second highest in one.
