Are you a service-minded, business-oriented and creative person? Do you want to organise events for other people? And do you want to work with people in a lively environment in the event or service industry? If so, the Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management programme is ideal for you.
The education is a two-year, full-time programme. The programme qualify graduates to independently develop, plan and implement tourism and travel services for companies operating in national and international environments.
The 2-year Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management programme will provide you with the tools required to develop, organise, realise and deliver services – typically within service, event management, travel industry, tourist sights and attractions, holiday and business travels, hotels and restaurants or conferences and fairs.
You will learn about markets, customer relations, innovation, management, strategies and business communication.
An Academy Profession (AP) degree is an undergraduate academic degree, duration of 2 years. The 2 year AP degree is similar to the first two years of a 3-year Bachelor degree.
After the AP degrees you can add another 1.5 years (Top-up degree) and get a bachelor degree.
After graduation with a Bachelor degree (3.5 years or 2 (AP) + 1.5 (Top-up) years) students can continue their studies in Denmark or abroad to get a Master’s degree.
The programme takes 2 years and is based on relevant business practices and theories. It is made up of a common compulsory part and a specialisation part.
The specialisation track allows you to choose among three areas: service management, tourism or hotel and restaurant management. You choose your specialisation area when you start the programme.
The compulsory part of the curriculum is made up of 6 subject areas:
- Methodology and society, which includes Methodology, Business and Social Descriptions, Ethics and Sustainability
- The service enterprise, which includes Business Administration, Service Theories, Trade Knowledge and Law
- Organisation, which includes Organisation principles, Management and personnel development, Work environment and Project management
- Planning, which includes Strategic Planning, Quality, Marketing and Innovation
- Communications, which includes English plus another language, Cultural Understanding and Customer Relations
- Technology, which includes Internal and External IT and Communications Systems
You receive a fundamental academic knowledge in the service professions, their organisation, interest areas, economic structure and business conditions.
In the period between the first and second study year, is an internship for 13 weeks. The internship takes place in a company in Denmark or abroad within your chosen specialisation area, for example in a hotel, a tourism enterprise or a service enterprise.
To complete the programme, you must write an individual thesis, which relates to your chosen specialisation.
The teaching methods aim at developing students` independent, innovative and cooperative skills. The classes are small (typically between 20 and 32 students) and students are encouraged to contribute actively to classroom discussions. Project work and group work are essential parts of the studies.
With an AP Degree in Service, Hospitality & Tourism Management you will be able to work on all levels in an organisation.
You will be able to combine knowledge of business, cultural and innovative factors and principles of sustainable development with methodological considerations on planning and organising services.
You will also be able to take part in managerial and collaborative matters and be able to engage in customer relationships with people of different educational, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
