Materials Science and Product Design is a full degree bachelor programme which enables you to work with materials and manufacturing processes in the fashion and furniture business. You get expert knowledge of new and innovative materials and insight into modern processing technology.
Choosing the 3½-year full bachelor degree programme in Materials Science and Product Design, you are taking the first steps towards becoming a key employee in the textile and furniture business.
The education gives you broad knowledge of materials and processes, and you get expert knowledge of new and innovative materials which i.e. can make textiles more durable and adjust to body temperatures.
Apart from that you get insight into modern processing technology, thus you can be part of optimising aspects when it comes to techniques, product design, product development process, economics, and production in manufacturing companies.
The programme stretches over 7 semesters. The course structure is based on common subjects and a range of subjects based on your speciality, whether textiles or furniture.
On the programmes 5th semester you have a six-month work placement in a company. Here you get the chance to try out theory in practice and create networks in the industry.
Science of engineering: You are taught mathematics, statistics, physics and chemistry.
Materials science and qualities: You learn about materials for textile and furniture, smart materials, nanomaterials, and organic biodegradable materials.
You’ll also learn about mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elasticity, abrasion resistance. You’ll study the effects of light, chemicals and aging resistance, as well as colour fastness to washing.
Process: You will gain knowledge of product design and industrial methods of processing as well as a profound insight into the relevant areas that qualify you to solve process related problems.
Business: You learn about: Quality control and environmental control, including companies’ social responsibilities (CSR) and sustainability; statistical methods and theories of measurement; and project management including staff management and project methods.
Communication: You learn about cultural understanding and cross-cultural communication.
As a Material Technology Engineer, you will have the skills to enter a wide range of careers.
