Do you want to create patterns for future fashion, evaluate a fashion designer’s sketches and determine the best manufacturing methods?
The programme will qualify you to work specifically with the design of garments –transforming the designer’s vision into a perfectly fitted garment. You will be able to take responsibility for complex pattern design and grading solutions using the newest CAD technology.
You will learn how to apply, compare and combine pattern construction methods and how to analyse and assess the impact of grading methods on the fit and silhouette of a garment.
PROJECTS AND EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES
Former students have been on exchange in the UK, Belgium and Finland, and have also participated in development projects with big companies like Danfoss.
Throughout the 4 semesters you will acquire basic knowledge of construction, grading, materials and manufacturing methods making you able to develop patterns ready for production and product documentations.
3 TYPES OF DEGREES
An Academy Profession (AP) degree is an undergraduate academic degree, duration of 2 years. The 2 year AP degree is similar to the first two years of a 3-year Bachelor degree.
After the AP degrees you can add another 1.5 years (Top-up degree) and get a bachelor degree.
After graduation with a Bachelor degree (3.5 years or 2 (AP) + 1.5 (Top-up) years) students can continue their studies in Denmark or abroad to get a Master’s degree.
The course programme focusses on providing you with skills in applying relevant tools within CAD and IT. The AccuMark programme from Gerber Technology will be your daily tool for construction and grading and you will use Adobe Illustrator for a number of illustrations within product documentation. You will be able to communicate products with a view to quality, measurements and tolerances for international business partners.
Teaching varies among classroom dialogue, projects and lectures. You will be working both independently and in teams.
During some of the classes, you participate in group work where you work together with fellow students solving different tasks.
The pattern design assistant may form part of a construction/design team in a company that develops products for the fashion and lifestyle sectors.
There are possibilities in for example a:
• Design company within clothing
• Commercial company as product support in a purchasing department
There are international possibilities, for example a Master of Science in Clothing Product Development at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.
