Multimedia Design is a digital design programme for digital minds with creative ideas!

As a student on this programme, you will work with all levels of the digital design process and you will obtain skills within the areas of front-end design and programming, User Experience (UX), content production and business and technology.

During your studies, you will be in close contact with the business community and do projects together with different companies and organisations. We focus particularly on innovation and entrepreneurship and cooperate with a wide variety of agencies, companies and cultural organisations.

You will also do a ten-week internship during which you will get the chance to test your digital skills in practice either in Denmark or abroad.

As a graduate, you will be able to encode and design front-end solutions, develop digital user experiences and create digital design and content. You are likely to get a job as e.g. a front-end designer or a content manger/creator.

ABOUT EDUCATION

Multimedia Design is an academy profession degree that lasts four semesters (two years). The programme adds up to 120 ECTS points.

During the first semesters, you will mainly be doing individual assignments and minor projects. Later on, you will be focusing primarily on case- work projects. The cases that we use are often made in cooperation with external partners.

We believe that project work is the best way for you to learn how to transform your theoretical knowledge into practice – and develop your ability to cooperate with others.

We will be working cross-disciplinarily all the way and, as a guiding principle, the subjects are put together to make a cross-disciplinary whole and are then offered as thematised courses.

We offer five-week themes in which you get a thorough introduction to all relevant subject areas. Within each theme, the teaching is structured in a way that makes it readily applicable to the project work. During the project work, the teachers function as consultants/advisors in relation to both content and process.

We aim to work closely together with companies and organisations relevant to our world.

The programme consists of the following elements:

  • User interface development
  • User experiences
  • Content production
  • Business
  • Technology

Internship

In the fourth semester of the programme, you must do a ten-week internship either in Denmark or abroad. Here, you get the chance to test your digital skills in practice and to strengthen your professional network, which you can benefit from once you graduate.

You can choose between different forms of internship, e.g. entrepreneurial internship, virtual internship or project-based internship. After the internship period, you will take an internal internship test based on a report describing your individual internship.

In the last few years, host companies have included LEGO, Linkfire, Strøm Works, Magnetix, the National Gallery of Denmark, &Co, CPH:DOX, Wunderman, VICE Denmark and others.

Your internship coordinator at KEA will help you with the practicalities in connection with your internship, which you must help organise yourself, including finding a host company. At present, there is a wide variety of internship host companies.

Electives

In addition to the obligatory subjects, we offer local specialisations in e.g. frontend design, frontend development, or content creation. We are constantly developing new elective subjects in relation to relevance and demand.

STUDY STYLE

The teaching is based primarily on cross-disciplinary projects, which are divided up into themes of two to five weeks’ duration.

The teaching is a mix of individual projects and group work where you plan and control your own time. In general, we teach using the blended-learning principle. This means that part of the teaching consists of a blend of videos, tutorials and guidance.

The first semester in particular is about your individual learning, spiced up with minor joint projects. You will acquire a significant set of tools that you can bring into use in the following semesters. You will have the opportunity to work with e.g. digital work-shop activities in our UX-lab, KEAProjectLab and Tech Lounge which focus on skills within user experience, technology and innovation.

In general, you will be working very hands-on with the subjects and you will learn the craft behind the industry that you will work in after graduation.

Collaboration with businesses

On the AP degree programme in Multimedia Design, you will get in close contact with the business community as you will get to do projects and write papers in cooperation with a specific company or organisation. Moreover, you will do an internship at a company in order to mobilise your competencies in practice.

We cooperate with a wide range of business types and over the last few years, we have worked with e.g. the development of a digital showroom for Norrmade, interactive information campaigns for the Danish Family Planning Association (DFPA), digital marketing of Politiken’s e-newspaper, digital buying experiences for ferm LIVING, a digital universe for Joe & The Juice and Lakrids by Johan Bulow and the digital campaign ”Young Voices” (”Unge stemmer”) together with TV2 Lorry.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

As a graduate in Multimedia Design, you will be a digital entrepreneur with a tool box that enables you to work within a broad range of industries. Your job will typically involve designing, planning and managing multimedia tasks.

You may find work at a digital agency, you may become the digital manger in small or medium-sized companies or you may become your own digital agency if you choose to start as an entrepreneur with your own agency.

As a digital octopus, you will be able to work within many different areas of the IT and multimedia businesses, e.g.:

  • Frontend designer
  • Frontend developer
  • UX designer
  • Content manager
  • SoMe manager
  • Content creator
  • E-commerce developer
